Once again Ted Thompson shows how sadly he is putting himself and his ego above the the packers team and all packer fans. Packer fans showed up to the Packers annual shareholder meeting hoping to get a better understanding of the situation involving the team and Brett Favre. What they got was more insulting double talk. Ted Thompson does not care about anyone but himself. If anyone was unsure before, his performance at this meeting is clear proof.  To the people who leave sarcastic, foul posts with no real thoughts other than hate and nothing to back up their comments... Please post you Favre bashing, Packer hating comments on Minnesota or Chicago Fan Forums. You are clearly not "Real Packer Fans".  The first question any reasonable person needs to answer in this saga is this... Who gives the talented Green Bay Packers squad the best chance to go to and win the Super Bowl this upcoming season. Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre. No intelligent person can come up with any better answer then Brett Favre. Its not even close. Brett was one of the Top 5 Quarterbacks in the league last year. If Brett does not carry the teams offense in the first 8 games. The Packers would not have been 7-1. The packers had no running game period to that point in the season. Brett then followed that up with even better stats the final 8 games. Add to the fact of Brett's durability and experience in the Packers offense and their is no other argument that can be made. Aaron Rodgers has proved very little in his career. He is lucky if he has total of 100 minutes in actual NFL Experience. Add to the fact, with that little experience; he has spent 3 stints on IR. It may be just bad luck, however coming out of college, one of the reasons Aaronn Rodgers fell so far in the draft was questions about his durability. Another reason teams did not draft him were questions about his attitude. Now take his experience, his potential to be injury prone and a suspect attitude and tell us he is a better choice then Brett Favre to be the Packers opening day Starting GB. Non-Sense!!!

OK now that we have confirmed Brett Favre is Green Bay's best option at Starting Quarterback. (Keep in mind nearly 99% of all national syndicated sports columnists believe Brett Favre is the best choice as well) What is the problem? The Packers released a statement saying they would do what's best for the organization. What is best for the organization? Most teams believe it is fielding the best possible team to win the Super Bowl. Its even more important when a team has the player personnel to make a run at a Super Bowl. The Packers have that chance now. These short windows don't last long. 3 to 4 years at best and then teams have to retool and rebuild. So clearly what is best for the Packers is to try to win the Super Bowl now. Since we already concluded Brett Favre is the best option at QB, the best choice is bring Brett back. If Ted Thompson and others in the Packers management want to do what is best for the packers as they claim they will bring Brett back........

Now some of you will say well its not fair to Aaron Roders. Aaaron Rodgers is getting paid fairly. He has had the opportunity to compete for the job each spring. If the packers coaching staff thought his play was better than Favre they would have played him more often. They did not. As for the future of Aaron Rodgers. If he is not happy he can leave. No draft pick is ever promised a starting position without earning it. Also if the Packers were so confident on him being a quality starting QB why did we bring in a new highly rated rookie QB. The answer is the Packers brass are not sure Aaaron Rodgers is going to be able to be a starting QB in the NFL .Remember Aaron Rodgers was Ted Thompson's first #1 pick. Since it is my contention this whole saga begins and ends with Ted Thompson and his willingness to stroke his own ego instead of doing what is best for the team. Ted Thomopson clearly has a grudge against Brett Favre. This the very reason Bretts has wavered the past 3 seasons about returning to play. He finds it hard to return to a team where GM does not want him and has his own agenda. Give Brett Credit for not calling out Ted Thompson in the media until just lately. If Brett had done this earlier like 3 years ago, all the critics of Brett and his unsure nature about returning would have nothing to say. However, Brett tried to keep this between him and Ted Thompson. However things got worse at the beginning of last year. Brett publicly made it known he felt the packers could use some help on the offense if they were going to make a run at the playoffs. Brett campaigned for the Packers to trade for Randy Moss. It came to the publics attention that Randy Moss wanted to come to Green Bay and all the packers had to do was trade a 4th round pick and Randy was a Packer. Randy Moss even offered to restructure his salary to help his new team with cap issues. Ted Thompson reacting to Brett said that Randy Moss was not worth it and he closed all discussion of that topic. The National Media ridiculed Thompson for not taking a chance for such little as a 4th round pick. Well, we all know what happened. Randy Moss had the best single season a receiver has had in the history of the NFL. Ted Thompson's ego was blasted. That was the last straw. Ted Thompson was done with Brett Favre, whether Brett was best for the team or not. This whole saga is about Ted Thompsons ego. He does not care about Green Bay or the Packers. He cares about one person, Ted Thompson. Keep in mind Packer fans. This situation he has created will not only affect this upcoming season, it will hurt our team, our city and our fans for many years to come. If Brett gets pushed out by Ted Thompson, what quality NFL player will want to sign to play in the cold for a GM like Ted Thompson. Also all of our current young talent will want out of town as soon as their contracts are up. We will once again become a team like we were before Brett showed up in 1992. So for all you Packers bashers, please consider all of the facts before you bash Brett Favre. For the rest of us, I call on Ted Thompson to resign. If he truly wants to show his heart is with the Packers and their fans there is no alternative. If not , Mark Murphy its time to step up and fire Ted Thompson. Last, I appeal to Brett Favre to return to the Packers. Your teammates want you back, your coach wants you back (even if he can't say that publicly) and all true Packers fans want you back. Don't pay any attention to haters and selfish people like Ted Thompson as they are the minority. God Bless Brett Favre and the Packers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so you are saying one player is greater then the team as a whole?  this is why there are brett favre fans and there are true packer fans.  the packers are tired of brett's bipolar disorder and feel it is time to move one.

I for one am proud of MM and TT. They have drawn a line in the sand.  I personally hope brett goes to the vikings. he might as well go in teh HOF a viking as well.   onece you abandon the packers you are dead to the packer nation.  reggie white is a prime example.  no longer welcome in wisconsin and then he goes and dies of a broken heart.  should have stayed a packer.

I am a true Packer Fan and I am not proud of TT.
Read the attached clip and maybe you will understand why people are disgusted with TT actions:

While it might seem contradictory, in truth, strong leadership often is exerted in subtle ways.

That also happened to be Bob Harlan's style during his 19 years as the Green Bay Packers' principal executive.

He rarely, if ever, overruled the people under him, but he influenced important decisions through his wisdom and guidance, especially in his areas of expertise -- public and community relations. And he did so in such a way that the Packers rarely were embroiled in bitter and enduring controversies during his reign.

Perhaps his lasting legacy will be that he was the best goodwill ambassador this storied, 90-year old franchise ever had.

That's why it's hard to imagine that the ongoing dispute between Brett Favre and the Packers would have dragged on this long or become this contentious if Harlan was still CEO. No matter how one slices it, the Packers likely will start training camp on Monday faced with a PR nightmare like none other in their history.

There was a time in this ongoing soap opera when playing the blame game was senseless.

There were no bad guys when Favre was waffling over his future -- theatrics and all -- and the Packers were deciding to move forward without him as their quarterback. It's still senseless to blame either side for anything that transpired from the time a choked-up Favre announced his retirement in early March until he asked for his release in a letter delivered July 12.

Favre changed his mind about retirement. Big deal. How many coaches and athletes in the pro ranks haven't? Is there anyone who goes through life without wavering or changing course on any number of important decisions?

At the same time, the Packers shouldn't be faulted for deciding to give Favre's job to Aaron Rodgers. Some might find that to be a rather curious decision, considering Favre was coming off a banner season, but it's not an unusual step in the National Football League. Teams are forever looking to replace older players, future Hall of Famers included. As the late George Young, general manager of the New York Giants' first two Super Bowl champions, was fond of saying: "It's a young man's game." The 38-year-old Favre, at least as a Packer, simply became a victim of that tenet.

There are also plenty of historical precedents to defend each side's position.

Favre isn't the first Packers star to retire and then want to unretire.

The late Reggie White announced his retirement before the 1998 season, changed his mind the next day, played another year and announced his retirement again. This time, he sat out a season, returned for one with the Carolina Panthers and finally retired for good on his third try. Hall of Fame tackle Forrest Gregg retired five times -- after the 1965, '68, '69, '70 and '71 seasons -- but didn't follow through until after playing one final season in Dallas. The immortal Don Hutson announced his retirement before each of his last three seasons, only to change his mind each time. Before his last year, 1945, he didn't commit to playing until just 48 hours before the opener. Hutson also considered retiring before the 1939 season, but was coaxed back and reported to camp nine days late.

In fact, Vince Lombardi's retirement as coach of the Packers and Favre's as a player have followed parallel tracks. Lombardi announced his retirement in an emotional press conference soon after Super Bowl II and essentially cited burnout as the reason. And, by all accounts, he regretted his decision by the time training camp arrived five months later. When the 1968 season ended, he asked out of his contract as general manager of the Packers and bolted to Washington to coach again.

On the flip side, Favre also isn't the first Packers great to be pushed out the door. Hall of Famer Paul Hornung, team leader and most valuable player of the Packers' first two championship teams under Lombardi, was dumped in an expansion draft. The legendary Ray Nitschke was benched and essentially shamed into retirement. Hall of Fame tailback and Green Bay native Arnie Herber was waived at the age of 31 during the final week of training camp in 1941, when he was just a season removed from leading the Packers to an NFL title.

But where this latest story line turned ugly was after Favre declared that he wanted to play again and general manager Ted Thompson responded by saying he'd take Favre back, but only as a backup. That's what has given this story life and given the Packers a black eye. It's what has embittered the greatest player in the franchise's history, invited a barrage of criticism from the national media and disaffected many of the team's fans.

After all Favre has done for the franchise -- more than anyone, he rescued it from the misery of the 1970s and ‘80s that threatened its very existence -- the Packers are unwilling to offer him the same opportunity or courtesy they've extended to other older players whose services were no longer needed.

When White decided he wanted to play again in 2000, the Packers willingly released him from his contract. When 12-year veteran William Henderson had the itch to play again last year after being told he no longer fit in the Packers' plans, Thompson released him, announcing that he was doing so to give Henderson a chance to "pursue other opportunities" with no strings attached.

The hunch here is that there has been only one team for which Favre really wants to play, and that's the Minnesota Vikings. And the reason being is that's the only place where he'd have a legitimate shot at winning another Super Bowl.

The Vikings had the No. 1-ranked run defense in the league last year and have added the best pass rusher in the game in defensive end Jared Allen. In Adrian Peterson, they have the NFL's most explosive runner. And their offensive line is good enough so that Favre shouldn't be constantly running for his life.

All Minnesota needs to become the NFC's preseason favorite is a quarterback.

With any other potential contender -- Tampa Bay, Chicago, Baltimore, the Jets -- Favre would have to carry a full load on offense. And he has suggested in the recent past that such a role would have little appeal to him.

No doubt that also has been the Packers' greatest fear -- that Favre will sign with the Vikings. In all likelihood, it was the impetus for their cockamamie response to Favre's request to be released: That he could come back, but only to carry a clipboard.

In other words, they're playing scared.

If Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy truly believe the Packers are a better team with Rodgers at quarterback, they should have the courage of their convictions. If they have as much confidence in Rodgers and their team as they say they do, they shouldn't fear facing Favre in another uniform.

The Packers could have defused this controversy and made this a much less messy divorce if they had given Favre his release soon after he asked for it. Had they exercised the kind of PR savvy that marked the Harlan administration, they would have released Favre and simply announced that they were doing so only to honor his request.

They still could do that and eliminate what could be a major distraction throughout camp.

Or they also could think outside the box and reap a nice return.

Why not trade Favre to the Vikings? After all, that would be the team most likely to part with a high draft pick in return.

Sure, there would be tremendous risk involved. It would substantially improve the Vikings' chances of winning the Super Bowl this coming season. Then again, New England's loss last February served as yet another reminder that championships aren't won on paper. Moreover, many of the Vikings' best players are on the downside of their careers, and such a trade might even hurt them in the long run, especially if they lose another draft pick over the Packers' tampering charge.

Over the past three years, the Packers have said goodbye to two other key players, Darren Sharper and Ryan Longwell, knowing full well that both could sign with the Vikings, as both ultimately did. But rather than fret the consequences, the Packers responded by winning four of the six meetings between the two teams.

If Thompson should have learned anything from his mentor Ron Wolf, it was that when faced with a tough decision, be bold. But he has been anything but as of late.

The Packers have told Favre they don't want him back as a starting quarterback, yet they're acting as if they're terrified that he'll come back to haunt them.

It just doesn't compute.

I think a deal should be struck here.  Brett Farve is welcomed back as the starting qb of the Green Bay Packers.   If he fails to get the packers to the super bowl, he owes the packers 12 million dollars and he retires for good. If he wins the super bowl he can hold the packers hostage until next year at this time with regards to his decision to play or not to play.

Anything less they a super bowl with Brett Favre coming back is a wasted year. It has delayed the development of the next quarterback, delayed much needed timing between a starting wr and the new qb.

People can say A Rod has not proved a thing. he really has never had the opportuity either.  Brett Farve had only proved at Atlanta that he was a beer drinker, pain killer addict  and a failed prospect.   had the Majik man not got hurt who knows if brett would even be the guy he is  today.   the reality is we are never going to know what we have until A ROD gets to play.  This is not madden football were you can program the level of difficulty. You only learn by being thrown into the frying pan.

So now that we have Favre back are we going to fire out head football coach and bring Mooch back. ah, a puppet head coach, who will allow brett to throw deep ints each game.  guess we can cut the punter then.

Favre wanted the royal treatment, then he realized that the Packers were no longer going to kiss his ass, as he continues to be the boy who cried wolf.  Favre is the one who was disruptive to the team, coaches, organization and the fans.  Favre had to go, because his heart wasn't in it.  How could his heart be in it all of the sudden ?  He said he gave all he had to football.  Time to move on.  Anyone who wants Thompson fired is not a true fan of the Packers Team!

To blame Ted Thomson for Favre's own waivering on retirement is rediculous.  Favre made his poor decision on his own.  Now, he is a traitor to Packer Fans, and the organization.  Favre had 16 years and he helped to win one super bowl.  That was 12 years ago.  Favre's playoff record in the last 10 games is 3-7.  Favre was beyond his prime, and Thompson knew it.  Thompson had the balls to cut his arrogant ass loose.  We had a great Packers Team last year.  Favre will find out how it is to play on a bad football team with the Jets.  Favre thinks he should call the shots on who will be on the team.  That is true arrogance.  It was up to Moss where he went.  He didn't want to come to Green Bay, so you whiny losers should get over that one.  True Packer fans are behind the Packers on this decision.

For a storied franchise such Packers to hire a spin-doctor in Arie Fleischer, the buffoon who sold America on the lies of Iraq, make the Packers organization equivalent or worse than Bush.  The lies about the company issued cell phone, made up private jet trip to MS, Brett's Locker, the Favre had WMD, Brett and Deana hate puppies, etc.  What were the Packers thinking?

It will be a long time before Brett Favre steps into the state of WI, if ever.

The only 3 time mvp in the league...Has just about every record. He should get whatever he wants to take a team that was 4-12 last year and there at 9-5 with 7 pro bowlers this year none last year! packer 2 pro bowlers thats ridiculous. for the packers to go 13-3 and now 5-9 thats ridiculous.  Favre ran that orginzation as you can tell.  sorry for all the losers that still stand behind the packers.  Hope favre retires as a JET!!

Hey, Brett was fantastic for years! but... Look what he's done for the Jets! The team is critisizing him for his picks... his commitment... I for one loved the guy... Im also glad we didnt have half of his picks this year. Arron has done a remarkable job!!! We need to begin to get the Packs front office fixed. RON WOLF AND MIKE HOLMGREN  These two could have our Pack The dominant force for years to come !!! Elvis has left the building and so has Brett... Get over it !

I am sick of Ted.  Since coming to GB he has made it known, without saying it, that he was no fan of Favre.  When Favre retired, then wanted to return, Ted handled it poorly (Favre didn't handle it correctly either) but you NEVER do that you the man that put life back into an organization with the deep history that the Packers have.  This isnt Dallas we are talking about ya know.

I am a strong proponent of building through the draft.  However, Ron Wolf (Teds so called mentor) sometimes you need to get (as in pay) the players you need via free agency.  Lets see, a 1st Round draft pick for a back up quarterback, who would have thought that kid was any good.  And well, for Reggie, we need not get into those details, lets just say it was worth it.

The players that Ted has passed on (other than Woodson, gotta give him credit for that one) are way to numerous to list and it still pisses me off so I wont talk about it.  But now we have TWO pro bowl, top notch defensive pass rushers who are looking for a home if you are willing to pay.  Am I wrong is saying that we really only lacked in one fundimental part of the game and that was in pressuring the QB?  The best cover guys cant hold coverage that long.   Jenkins being out hurt, Kampman was all alone at that point, points to be taken in to consideration.  Put this thought in your mind, name a team that won the Super Bowl without a superstar at some position.  With Farve gone, who is ower superstar? (btw, I think Rogers is kicking ass, he just needs a bit of time to let loose the cannon)

If Ted decides to again, forget free agency and live on his cap cushion and what the draft brings him, then not only should they fire him, they should....... wait, this may be read by mixed company.

Thank you for listening even if you disagree, but if you love the Pack, Ted so far can't be your guy.  Hope he figures it out soon.

But if Thompson hires Michael Vick, then I'm all for his head on a platter.
